Executive Summary

GGSec Cortex identified 17 confirmed and 1 likely vulnerabilities in cortex_capability_bench_v4_1.scanplan.json. Combined exploitation enables an unauthenticated attacker to achieve full administrative takeover. Every confirmed finding is evidence-backed — proven by a live proof-of-concept or a baseline-difference control (a forged/malicious request is accepted while a matched control is rejected), so false positives are minimised. Likely findings are confirmed marker-leak / parser-differential signals without a full request-hijack proof — they warrant manual verification, not an emergency response. Immediate remediation is recommended.

DAST — Vulnerability Details

🔍 GGC-JWT-185 8.8 HIGH P1 Confirmed JWT token case 'jwt' / jwt_verify_vuln() 4/4 hits ▼
Flow
The /?route=jwt verifier reads alg from the token header and branches: alg=none returns the payload unverified; alg=HS256 is HMAC-verified against JWT_PUBLIC_PEM (published at ?route=jwt_public_key). An admin role/sub claim unlocks adminPanel/secret. Classic alg=none + RS256->HS256 confusion.
Attack Chain
Fetch RS256 baseline token at ?route=jwt_issue, discover public PEM at ?route=jwt_public_key/jwks, forge HS256 admin token HMAC'd with the PEM bytes (or use alg=none), send as Bearer to ?route=jwt -> adminPanel:true, secret revealed.

Remediation
Pin ONE expected algorithm and use algorithm-specific keys — never let an RS256 verifier accept an HS256 token.
  • Configure the verifier with a fixed algorithm allowlist (e.g. only RS256) and reject any token whose alg differs.
  • Never feed the RSA/EC PUBLIC key into an HMAC verify path — keep HMAC secrets and asymmetric keys in separate, type-bound key stores.
  • Use a library API that takes the expected algorithm as a required argument (not one inferred from the token header).
  • Validate standard claims (exp, nbf, iss, aud) and treat role/privilege claims as untrusted until the signature is verified.

🔍 GGC-VULN-1E1 6.4 MEDIUM P2 Confirmed SESSION_FIXATION sid bootstrap fixation handler + case 'login' 1/1 hits ▼
Flow
session.use_strict_mode is set to 0 and ?route=fixation&sid= lets an attacker set an arbitrary session id via session_id() before session_start(); login sets $_SESSION['cap_user'] without session_regenerate_id(), so the pre-set SID becomes an authenticated session.
Attack Chain
Attacker sends victim ?route=fixation&sid=ATTACKERID; victim logs in with that cookie; attacker reuses ATTACKERID as an authenticated session.

Remediation
Regenerate the session identifier on every privilege change (login), and harden the session cookie.
  • Call session_regenerate_id(true) / equivalent immediately after successful authentication.
  • Reject session IDs the server didn't issue; never accept a session id from the URL.

Remediation
Enforce field-level authorization in every resolver — a query reaching a field is not authorization.
  • Check the caller's permission inside each resolver (and on nested/edge fields), not only at the top-level query.

🔍 GGC-GQL-1C4 7.5 HIGH P1 Confirmed GRAPHQL_INJECTION query graphql: 192.168.0.25 1/1 hits ▼
Flow
The GraphQL endpoint processed a deeply-nested query built over a recursive relation in the schema with no depth/complexity limit. A single crafted query can traverse the cycle to an arbitrary depth and exhaust CPU/memory — denial-of-service.
Impact

CWE / CVSS
CWE-770 Resource Exhaustion (GraphQL query cost / batching)  ·  CVSS 7.5 High
Unbounded resource consumption (e.g. an expensive query) enables denial of service.

Reproduce:
curl -i -X POST 'http://192.168.0.25/cortex_benchmark_v3/cortex_capability_bench_v4_1.php?route=gql' --data 'graphql-depth-dos'
Evidence (live response):
PoC: nested query over a self/2-cycle type relation was executed and returned `data` (no depth/complexity rejection). Enforce a maximum query depth and complexity budget.
Remediation
Bound GraphQL query cost — enforce depth/complexity limits, cap aliasing/batching, and rate-limit.
  • Add a maximum query depth and a query-complexity/cost limit (reject over-budget queries before execution).
  • Cap or disable aliasing and array/operation batching so one request can't fan out into N expensive resolvers.
  • Enforce per-client rate limiting and pagination caps; set resolver timeouts.
  • Use persisted queries / an operation allowlist in production.

Flow
admin_stats returns admin-only statistics (userCount, revenue, GGSEC4_BFLA_ADMIN_STATS) to ANY authenticated user with no role check (require_login only, no admin gate). Vertical BFLA.

Object references aren't authorization-checked, so changing an id exposes or modifies other users' data (IDOR).

Remediation
Enforce per-object authorization on every request — verify the current user owns (or may access) the referenced object.
  • On every object access, check ownership/permission server-side: the session identity must be authorized for the requested id, never the id alone.
  • Scope queries to the authenticated user (WHERE owner_id = :sessionUser) instead of trusting a client-supplied id.
  • Prefer unpredictable, non-sequential identifiers (UUIDs) so ids cannot be trivially enumerated — defense in depth, not a substitute for authz.
  • Add access-control tests and centralize authorization in middleware/policies rather than ad-hoc per-endpoint checks.
